From 9–17 August 2025, the Royal Queensland Show—affectionately called the Ekka—will once again transform the Brisbane Showgrounds into a vibrant showcase of agriculture, entertainment, and food. This much-loved event has been bringing the country to the city since 1876, when it was first held to celebrate Queensland’s farming achievements. Over nearly 150 years, it has grown into a state icon, attracting hundreds of thousands each year.
Tradition Meets Thrill

At its heart, the Ekka celebrates rural life—prize-winning livestock, sheep shearing, and the famous Animal Nursery connect city visitors to the bush. Agricultural competitions remain a highlight, with farmers and producers proudly presenting their best.
This year also brings plenty of modern thrills, including the XXL SkyFlyer, Australia’s tallest family chain swing, and more than 100 free activities such as motocross stunts, woodchopping, goat yoga, and duck racing.
A Feast for All

The iconic strawberry sundae is a Queensland classic, but food lovers can also enjoy gourmet street eats, artisan cheeses, and budget-friendly $10 meals. New for 2025, the Blockbuster Burger offers a shareable (and Instagram-worthy) feast.
Entertainment Highlights

From EkkaNITES fireworks and daredevil motorbike stunts to live concerts, parades, and Sideshow Alley rides, there’s something for everyone. Families will love The Smurfs live show, while adrenaline fans can head straight for the thrill rides.

Why the Ekka Endures
The Ekka is more than an event—it’s a Queensland tradition and a celebration of everything we value: community, heritage, and a good time. It’s the sparkle in a child’s eye when they meet a calf for the first time, the pride in a farmer’s stance as they present their prize-winning bull, the shared cheer as fireworks light up the Brisbane night sky.
Whether you come for the rides, the food, the animals, or simply the atmosphere, Ekka 2025 promises memories that will last long after the gates close.
